I am a few days late posting about this site – but to throw in a cliché – better late than never. I recently discovered FAWM through Nick Stozier over at Song Written and I am pretty excited about it.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with FAWM (like me), it is February Album Writing Month, a challenge to write fourteen songs in 28 days.
I’ve already challenged myself to write 50 songs this year and I think FAWM would be a great way to get a huge chunk of them done. Of course, that’s not to say that all fourteen of the songs will be album-worthy, even for great composers that’s a stretch. However, I think it would be safe to wager that at least four or five of those songs could be album worthy.
As part of FAWM you can write instrumentals, just lyrics, or lyrics and music; it’s pretty open. AND collaboration is encouraged, so you don’t have to do the work on your own. You can work with a writing buddy or with several different writers.
After having completed NaNoWriMo, I’ve become a fan of challenges like it. It helps having a deadline and a community to drive you. I think there are quite a few incentives for joining. If you’re a secretive writer, you don’t have to worry. Posting the audio is optional. The only thing they ask you to post is the title of the song (and you can easily call it “Song 1” and keep the title to yourself). Plus FAWM is free.
