  • Litchfield Jazz Camp

    Summer is quickly approaching, and if you haven’t yet made plans to continue your jazz education, it’s not too late! We have a list of summer music camps here, but we’d like to let you know about the Litchfield Jazz Camp held at Canterbury School in New Milford, Connecticut.

    The camp hosts 1-5 week sessions directed by jazz greats such as saxophonist Don Braden, with other staff including Russ Johnson, Claudio Roditi, Avery Sharpe, Gary Smulyan, Matt Wilson, Dave Stryker, Claire Daly and many more.

    The sessions are held as following:

    • Session 1: July 6 – 11
    • Session 2: July 13 – 18
    • Session 3: July 20 – 25
    • Session 4: July 27 – August 1
    • Session 5: August 3 – August 8

    The school accepts vocal an instrumental students ages 12 and up, providing them with opportunities to perform as part of concerts, jam sessions and gigs around town. They also have to opportunity to take part in the Litchfield Jazz Festival in Goshen, Connecticut at the conclusion of the camp from August 8-10.

  • Travel to Europe and Play Jazz with JM Jazz World

    JM Jazz World | Teen JazzIf you don’t have any plans for the summer, check out JM Jazz World for the opportunity to travel to Europe and play as part of their jazz orchestra.

    The event will be held between June 27 and July 4, 2014 in Norway!

    As part of the sixteen-piece orchestra, you will have the opportunity to perform in the Kongsberg Jazz Festival (the headliners this year include Joshua Redman, Chick Corea, and Dave Holland) and other performances TBA.

    The auditions are being held for those who play saxophone, trombone, trumpet, horn, tuba, guitar, bass, drums, piano or vocals.

    The event is open to those between the ages of 18-26. The deadline for application is April 11, 2014. Apply here.

    Please note that if you are accepted into the JM Jazz World program, you will be responsible for covering the cost of traveling to and from Norway from your home country. If you need help funding your trip to Europe, consider a crowdfunding campaign (Indiegogo, Kickstarter, Pledgemusic, etc.).

  • Grammy Foundation Summer Camps

    Every year The Grammy Foundation offers a music industry camp for talented high school students and this year, the camp will be held in four cities with the option of four different tracks: performance, music journalism, video production and music business. The camp is a great opportunity for students to work with Grammy nominated and winning artists and specialists while developing their skills in different aspects of entertainment industry.

    The deadline to apply is coming up! Make sure you apply before March 31, 2014.

    The camp curriculum provides students the opportunity to hone their abilities in audio engineering, electronic music production, music business, music journalism, songwriting, video production, and performance (bass, drums, guitar, keyboards, vocals, winds & strings). Select tracks are offered in each location and each culminates in media projects, album recordings, or an open house/performance.

    Financial assistance is available for qualified applicants.

  • Win Money and Rico Gear for Yourself and Your School

    From March 1 to May 20, 2014 D’Addario Woodwinds (formerly Rico Reeds) is inviting saxophonists and clarinet players between the ages of 13-19 to submit videos of themselves playing any solo piece from their annual state competition list via Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #takefirst. You can also upload your videos directly to the D’Addario Woodwinds site starting May 1.

    Each month a winner will be selected based on votes and a Grand Prize Winner will be selected on June 30th from all prior winners. Five winners will be selected on the 16th of each month as part of the competition. According to the D’Addario site, “The entries will be judged on the basis of the student’s effort, execution, and demonstrated commitment to music excellence.”
