Saxophonist Nelson Pettigrew | Teen Jazz Artist

Setup/Gear/Manufacturer of Instruments:

Alto Saxophone, Cannonball musical instruments.

Why did you begin studying music?

I’ve always loved music, but when I discovered the genre of Jazz as I was a young child at the age of 11, when I heard the sound of the saxophone, I was overtaken by its sweet melody. I then began to study deeper in to that genre of music called Smooth Jazz. There was a station, smooth jazz 98.9 in Memphis tn, that was my foundation in growing as I got older to love it as much as I do now.

What are you doing with music right now?

I am currently in the process of making my first album. I perform here and there for special events, but I am wanting to branch out more nationally or even world wide. I have worked on some single recordings gradually prompting my music getting it ready for my current project.

Who are some of your influences?

The Isly Brothers, Al Green, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Kenny G, Kirk Whalum, Euge Groove, Boney James, Gerald Albright, Candy Dulfer, Everette Harp, Dave Coz, Pieces of a Dream, Richard Elliot, David Sandborn, Najee, Kem, Steve Cole, and Nelson Rangell.

Who do you/have you studied with?

I am a solo artist, but I would love to collaborate with a number of musicians in the future.

What do you plan on doing with music in the future?

I plan on traveling the world, performing, playing my Sax, and to one day share the stage with some of my influences I grew up listening to, creating more music that touches peoples hearts, and spread the love.
