On September 17, 2013, saxophonist Steve Cole will release Pulse, a 10-song mix of R&B, smooth jazz, gospel and pop. The album, which will be released on Artistry music, was co-produced by Cole and fellow sax player David Mann.

The album opens with the title track, “Pulse,” co-written with up and coming keyboardist Nicolas Cole (no relation). “With You All the Way,” the single from the album has already been growing popular on smooth jazz radio, but it’s actually with David Mann’s “Slinky” that he captured our attention here at Teen Jazz.

And of course, you can’t go wrong with bringing back a rendition of a timeless tune from 1969. Both saxophonists Kirk Whalum and Maceo Parker as well as Luther Vandross and The Gap Band, have had their say on “Going in Circles” and now, as part of Pulse, Cole adds his voice to this soul classic.

Pulse includes performances by trumpeter Trevor Neumann, trombonist Dan Levine, saxophonist David Mann, keyboardists Nicholas Cole and Ricky Peterson, guitarist Bernd Schoenhart, drummer Khari Parker, bassist Paul Peterson, and vocalists Nicki Richards and Rico McFarland.

Steve Cole hails from Chicago. He made his debut in 1998 with Stay Awhile, an album produced alongside keyboardist Brian Culbertson. Stay Awhile earned Cole two #1 hits and the Oasis Smooth Jazz Award for best new artist. He has performed with Peter White, Boz Scaggs, Jeff Lorber, Brian Culbertson, and Rick Braun. You can read or listen to our interview with him here.
